Just like every other story, ours started beautifully,

but unlike the usual happily ever after, we ended a bit tragically.

You asked for explanations, begged me for days,

but I didn’t budge, I didn’t give you any.

I  was  as cold-hearted, as one can be,

but know that ’til now, I’m truly sorry.

For truth be told, I’ve no reasons to give,

just that I fell out of it, how cruel really.

You gave me poems and flowers,

and a weak thank you is all I could utter.

Not even a hug, a kiss or a half-hearted

‘I love you’ that I could’ve offered.

You told me not to cry,

for stars like me don’t fall out of the sky.

Your rhymes no matter how perfect they are,

I don’t regret saying good bye.

I wanted different things,

I am now chasing different dreams.

You’ve found someone for your ring,

and we’ve accepted our perfect ending.

If we meet again in a different lifetime,

I hope we don’t make the same mistake of falling for each other.
