Billboard has officially released the numbers of the first-week sales of Taylor Swift’s 1989 album this Tuesday. It sold 1.287 million copies in its first week and has broken records in the music industry.
Swift got the biggest sales week for an album since 2002
Even before it was released, music critics are already saying that the 1989 album will break records and will be the largest sales week for an album since the year 2002. Now it’s official, Swift debuted No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.
1989 is the biggest-selling album of 2014
It is the only album of 2014 to sell a million after only a week. It is far from the second biggest-selling album – Coldplay’s Ghost Stories – which sold 745 000 copies.
Swift is the first and only act to have three albums sell more than a million in its first weeks in a row
Her first album to reach a million is Speak Now (1.047 million), the second is Red (1.208 million, and now 1989 (1.287 million). I guess nobody can stop her success.
Her legion of fans are celebrating around the world and are probably shaking it off and partying like it’s 1989. (winks)
But Taylor Swift the Queen is celebrating too. Watch her rap her feelings in this video!
