Be Mad

Our parents would tell us to sleep early, eat veggies, study hard, go to a reputable university, get a stable job and ascend the ladder of success, and finally marry and start a family. It’s a template that everybody must follow. By default it is what’s expected of us.

Sure, you can follow this and you will find happiness. But fun and happiness are two different things. Happiness is being content, fun means wanting more out of life.

Fun lies far off the beaten path. Fun is what people find when they are mad enough to go against the flownor start their own stream.

You will never truly have a fun and happy life if you will just do what everyone has been doing for hundreds of years now.

Leave everything behind and do something different

If you are no longer happy with your job, quit. It’s okay to give up on things that no longer make you happy. If you don’t have any financial responsibilities at home, what is stopping you from pursuing what you really love to do?

If office work is killing you, why stay? Drink a little bit of the madness tonic and quit. Do something different. Move to a different city. Wear the color red even if you hate it.

Stop using the internet for an entire month, go to a bookstore and pick ten random books, and read them while you’re on the bus to nowhere.

If you don’t allow your young self to do mad things, you’ll grow old bitter. I swear.

Understand that no one really knows what they’re doing

That means it’s okay to “wing” it or just do whatever comes to your mind. Because people aren’t really sure where they’re headed. If you see someone who appears to have life figured out, that’s just confidence you are seeing. No one really knows how their plans will pan out. Everyone is just winging it.

And it’s okay. You don’t have to know what you’ll do for the rest of your life. All you owe to yourself is to know what you should do next. Once in a while add madness to it. Otherwise you’ll be a bitter and boring person when you start losing your teeth.

We all know someone who’s having crazy fun in his/her life

That person who is having so much fun with his/her life and is actually having fun, we all know someone like this. Not pretending and definitely not just overly optimistic, but actually having fun because, well, he/she’s mad!

Maybe you’ll catch yourself thinking, “why is she having so much fun? How can she do all of these things without worrying about other things?”

If other people can cast away the little things that are of little importance to them and just do whatever the heck they want, what’s stopping you from doing the same?

When was the last time you were mad for/about something?

It’s okay to break the rules. Rules were set in place to avoid “bad” things from happening, but inadvertently so does the “good” things.

It’s okay to be madly in love. It’s okay to read like a mad person, dance until your feet bleed, sing until your colleague asks you to stop, eat ice cream straight from the tub, and many more mad things!

Be different. Be mad. Have fun!

Be mad within the limits of not harming another, of course.
